Child Support

Child support payments are court ordered payment for the financial support of a child. Under Texas Law the your child has a right to be financially supported by both parents. A parent can go to the court and ask for an order establishing child support. Another person, such as a grandparent may also ask the court to order one or both parents pay child support for the child. Existing child support orders can be changed. If the parties do not provide specific details about their income, the court will set child support based on other available evidence, including past work experience and/or testimony of the other parent, or it can set a minimum amount provided for in the law, including calculating monthly income by assuming that the parent is capable of working 40 hours per week and earning 100% of the current federal minimum wage.
